“This mural is similar to much of my work in that it is very process-focused. In this approach I keep the planning phase very basic, sometimes I don't plan anything at all. In doing this, I feel like I am creating in the most genuine/honest way I can. In real time I am reacting to the environment I'm in, the colors around me, the general vibe, sounds, etc. and all of that becomes visually translated within the artistic style/language I use.”

“I had just moved to Sarasota a few days before painting this mural and to me the adrenaline of that move, the newness of everything having just spent the past 11 years in Detroit, being in a new relationship, being part of this energetic festival and meeting the artists who have been living and creating in this community for years and also the lingering thoughts of the Pride crosswalks downtown I had painted years ago being painted over a few months before - all of that also channeled into the mural.”

“In more ways than one the mural is an abstract tribute to Sarasota in how I was experiencing it right then and there and I hope that the joy, positivity and electric energy I felt when painting it reflects that back to the viewer.“
